Also known as Yellow Balau which is found throughout Malaysia and Indonesia It is probably the most common type of timber seen in the use of constructing decks and has durability Class 2: It is a dense timber easily used and available.
Batu is ideal for timber decks and screens. It is very similar to Merbau and is a hard and durable timber which is yellow brown, reddish brown or sometimes purplish brown and which darkens with age. It has a fine to medium texture with a wavy interlocked grain and a medium to low shrinkage rate.
